Safety first

Advice on makeup, adhesives, face paint and props follows product labels and guidance from safety authorities such as the US Food and Drug Administration and the Consumer Product Safety Commission. We recommend patch tests, flame-resistant materials and costumes that let children see and be seen.

History and facts come from reference works and published sources, linked under each guide. Costume ideas and instructions are our own.

Independence

No company pays to appear on the site and we do not use affiliate links. Photographs come from free stock libraries and are credited to their photographers.
